Solitary crossing of the Pacific on windsurfboard
The
Minister of SPORTS, JEAN FRANCOIS LAMOUR on the telephone
Yesterday, Friday October 17 we organized a surprise for Raphaëla
at the PC Course, by inviting the Minster of Sports Jean François
Lamour to come at 18h30 at the Maison de la Radio, our Parisian base to
converse with our navigator
This meeting comes as a huge surprise for her. The Minister enquires
about her current situation and how she feels. Raphaela is very
moved and honored by his presence, and thanks him for all the support
he manifested throughout the crossing , in particular when she was departing
from Lima,August 5th.
Then she talks about the events pertaining to last night, «a
very bumpy night since I was drifting in a sea with waves over 2 meters
high and winds attaining 25 to 30knots, but I made it and there was little
risk I would capsize.»
The Minister responds: «I am
equally honored to be speaking with you and I admire your serenity and
amazing determination, I have been following your crossing since the beginning
and I am very proud of your achievement as are all the French.»
Raphaela responds: «Well it has been a team work since the beginning
with a long preparation. Without the team nothing would have happened»
Jean François Lamour asks when she thinks she will come
across the catamatan and how she awaits this event «it
should occur in 3 toà 4 joursI should be located around 15°30
South and 142° 30West , and I am so excited since this will be the
first time in a very long time (70 days) I come into contact with other
humans.»
The Ministre then says «Raphaëla, promise
to maximize these last moments of solitudeand have a great party when
you arrive, I know that the Président Gaston Flosse,is planning
a fantastic even.» Raphaëla smiles.
Then Jean Marie Cavada, Président of Radio France, enquires about the moral and physicall well being of our navigator, he is also terribly impressed by these long moments of total solitude totale. Raphaëla admits that sometimes her moral flinches in particular when the board is not advancingdue to lack of wind,or too much wind that steers the board in the wrong direction. «But today I am thinking of the arrival which restores my strength, I also look forward meeing the Tahitians and thank you all for your support» Jean Marie Cavada,will also organize a small party for her when she returns.

At the end of the passage of this zone of rain and storm situate on the
islands of Tuamotu , the eastern wind will die down and then go North
, North East as it fades out . The zone of weak winds off Raraka/Katiu
will only last a short period before the South Eastern wind starts again
with 15to 19 knots after the passage of Tuamotou.
